The journey of preserved blooms.

Just like the fresh flowers you would pick up at your local market, these dried blooms start off just the same way. They are harvested by the local growers and taken to factories that freeze dry the flowers. Some are first submerged in coloured water so the flower can absorb the vibrant colours, while others are left natural or bleached white. Freeze drying flowers uses a process called lyophilisation to lower the temperature of the flowers to below freezing. Following this, a high-pressure vacuum is applied to extract the water in the form of vapour. The vapour collects on a condensing surface outside the chamber, turns back to ice and is removed. Finally, a gradual temperature rise extracts all remaining 'bound' moisture from the flowers. This process retains the original shape and structure, and preserves the flowers.
